A Cornerstone coach...
... will be a positive role model on and off the field.
… will monitor student’s grades and see that they are achieving in the classroom.
… will provide a safe learning environment for his players in practice and during games.
… will use losing and winning as an opportunity to teach young athletes how to handle these situations properly.
...will strive to develop and maintain positive relationships with their athlete's families
… will keep in mind that youth sports are for athletes, not the adults coaching them
… will keep an open line of communication with other coaches, players, parents, and administrators.
… will have written practice plans that challenge players, teach new aspects of the game, refine skills, and execute them in a fast pace, fun manner.
…will represent the ideals of Cornerstone Coaching Academy in a positive light at all times on and off the field.
… will promote and demonstrate good sportsmanship by showing respect to opponents and officials at every game.
… will hold athletes accountable for their actions and will teach them how to take responsibilities for their own actions.
… will put the athlete first and strive to build champions on and off the field.
Graduates of Cornerstone's Silver Certification will have access to a Player's Code of Conduct as well as a Parent's Code of Conduct that they can use or modify for their own teams. Check out the curriculum for the Silver Certification at:

Great post this should be followed by every coach young or old.
Thanks for the feedback Mike! My personal favorite is “… Will keep in mind that youth sports is for the athletes, not the adults coaching them.” If coaches kept this in mind, their seasons would be a success regardless of the record on the field.
I think this is a great list of ethics for any coach, regardless of sport. A coach can have such a dramatic impact on a young player and what they teach their team will stick with them for the rest of their lives. You have to live up to their expectations!

I could not agree more. Most of our athletes will never earn a dime or a college scholarship playing sports, but the example we set and the lessons they learn will be with them as they go through the rest of their lives.
